2013 — Redemption Church Begins

  • January 5, 2013: Pastor Jamie Caldwell launched Redemption Church with a core team in Severna Park, meeting on Saturday nights.
  • Easter 2013: The church gathered for its first Sunday morning service.
  • Met at AACC (Anne Arundel Community College) until Fall of 2013.
  • End of 2013: Moved gatherings to Magothy River Middle School.

2017 — Multiplying the Mission

  • Redemption sent out its first church plant, Citizens Church, pastored by Joey Nickerson.

2018 — A New Partnership

  • December 2018: Redemption hired Kent Phoebus, marking the beginning of a new season of leadership and growth.

2019 — The Merge and the Birth of South Shore

  • June 2019: Jamie and Kent met with South Shore Baptist Church to discuss merger possibilities.
  • August 2019: Jamie and Kent began serving as interim pastors for South Shore Baptist while they were without leadership.
  • September 2019: When Magothy River Middle School had to abruptly kick Redemption out due to a construction project in the school, South Shore allowed Redemption to begin meeting in their building.
  • October 9, 2019: Both congregations voted to merge and become one church.
  • October 13, 2019: South Shore Church officially held its first worship service together.

2020 — Faith Through the Pandemic

  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, South Shore purchased a $12,000 tent and continued to gather outdoors.
  • Despite the challenges, God brought significant growth to the church during this time.

2021 — Church Planting Continues

  • South Shore sent out its second church plant, Saints Church, pastored by Alex Bouffard.

TODAY

  • South Shore serves 400–500 people weekly across two services.
  • Nearly one-third of our congregation are midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy, creating a vibrant but ever-changing community of believers.
